Back at Old Town Square and all the street shows...
See the "genie"? |
Walking to King Wenceslas on horseback at the other end of King Wenceslas Square which is really a long blvd.
"Wenceslas Square, the heart of the city's vibrant New Town and a favored location for political demonstrations and celebrations." (Viking Guide, p. 14) |
I took this photo to show the colors.
Directly opposite this shot is the next picture. |
Here is where the end of communism happened on a November night in 1989 with the ringing of keys.
This was done through sheer people power, especially the masses of defiant Czechs who gathered here peacefully in Wenceslas Square. They called it "The Velvet Revolution." (Rick Steves, Prague City Walk audio tour) |
We continued our tour and entered into The Lucerna Arcade.
"This sculpture - called Wenceslas Riding an Upside Down Horse - hanging like a swing from a glass dome. David Cerny, who created the statue in 1999, is one of Czech Republic's most original contemporary artists." (Rick Steves, Prague City Walk audio tour) |
Franciscan Garden in the heart of town.
"The peacefulness reflects the purpose of its Franciscan origin. St. Francis, the founder of the order, thought GOD's presence could be found in nature. In the 1600s, Prague became an important center for a group of Franciscans from Ireland." (Rick Steves, Prague City Walk audio tour) |
Back at Old Town Square later in the evening.
I took this to show all the people waiting for the "Astronomical clock which comes alive every hour with its "Walk of the Apostles." (Viking Guide, p. 12) |
| Jan in the foreground with the people looking up at the clock behind me which you can see in the previous picture. |
| Nice lighting on the church off the Old Town Square. |
| More night pictures. |
| Last one. |
